The new edition of the International Directory of Philosophy and Philosophers provides extensive information on philosophical activity in Africa, Asia, Australasia, Europe, and Latin America. It contains edited listings for 1,174 university and college philosophy programs, 224 research centers, 254 professional societies and associations, 693 academic journals, and 539 philosophy publishers in 130 countries. It also contains multiple indexes, an extensive table of academic abbreviations in several languages, and the names of approximately 15,000 philosophy faculty with their academic ranks and philosophical specialties. This directory remains the most comprehensive available source of information on philosophical activity in these areas in print format.

The International Directory of Philosophy and Philosophers was established in 1965 with the support of UNESCO. Since 1972 It has been published every two years by the Philosophy Documentation Center, alternating with its companion volume the Directory of American Philosophers. These works are consolidated online in the International Directory of Philosophy.
