Library of Congress Subject Headings in Philosophy
A Thesaurus for Information Professionals
Barbara L. Berman, Editor
This specialized thesaurus has been compiled for use by librarians, researchers,
and information professionals interested in the application of a standard
set of subject descriptors to print and electronic resources in philosophy.
Compiled from the list of subject headings published by the Library of
Congress (LCSH), this thesaurus includes listings of main philosophical
terms; cross references to broader, narrower, and related terms; and an
extensive listing of ethnic, national, and religious philosophies. A special
preface for philosophers by Prof. John Shook has also been provided.
This thesaurus will facilitate philosophical research in library collections
organized around the Library of Congress classification system, and will
be of value to anyone searching citation databases, archival collections,
and the growing quantity of philosophy-related web sites. It will also
be of use to those responsible for assigning appropriate subject descriptors
to philosophy monographs, journal articles, dissertations, or other publications.
