The philosophers in this volume, though differing with respect to analysis and prescription, agree generally that philosophy has an important public role in contemporary discussions regarding globalization and its effects. Two broad consequences of globalization can be discerned for philosophy. The first is that intercultural philosophy (as opposed to, say, “analytic” philosophy or “Asian” philosophy) is uniquely positioned to shed new light on perennial philosophical problems. Second, globalization itself presents new problems for philosophy to address, especially in the areas of social and political philosophy. Contributors include Natalia Avtonomova, Carl Becker, Arindam Chakrabarti, Chung-ying Cheng, Mikhail Epstein, Safro Kwame, Kwang-Sae Lee, James Scanlan, and Evert van der Zweerde. Author abstracts are provided for each paper and a complete name index is provided.
