Analytic philosophy remains a vital philosophical tradition, still centrally preoccupied with the analysis of language and thought. The papers in the first half of the volume contribute to the project of developing a general theory of meaning, a continuation of the original Fregean aspiration to get at the structure of thought through the basic structures of language. With the next several papers there is a shift to the analysis of reference for terms, both singular and general. Others have their starting points in essays of Hilary Putnam, while others discuss theories of truth. Contributors include Daniel Andler, João Branquinho, Oswaldo Chateaubriand, Luciano Floridi, Manuel García-Carpintero, Jaakko Hintikka, Mark Sainsbury, and W. V. O. Quine. Author abstracts are provided for each paper and a complete name index is provided.
