The world ongress of hilosophy is held every five years under the auspices of the International Federation of
Philosophical Societies. The twentieth world congress, held in Boston, Massachusetts in 1998, was the largest international gathering of academic philosophers in the 20th century. The Proceedings of the Twentieth World Congress of Philosophy contain approximately 270 invited and selected papers from this event in twelve thematically organized volumes. The set provides summary statements of the international status of the major fields in philosophy at the turn of the century.
