Philosophy Research Archives
William P. Alston, Founding Editor
The Philosophy Research Archives was established in 1975 by the Philosophy Documentation Center as an innovative experiment in journal publishing. It was produced in microfiche format and no limit was placed on the length of submissions. Its purpose was to provide a venue for the regular publication of longer works, free of the space limitations of traditional journals. The journal was published in cooperation with the American Philosophical Association and the Canadian Philosophical Association, and contributions were accepted in English or French. The format evolved over time in response to demand from readers and authors. Volumes 1-7 (1975-1981) were published in a microfiche format only. Volumes 8-14 (1982-1989) were published in print format, with each volume containing a microfiche supplement. Since 1990 the journal has been published as the Journal of Philosophical Research.
